It’s that time of year, Fall Family Photo session time! Every season I’m always asked how to coordinate family outfits for photos, so I put together a few style inspiration boards and wanted to share a few tips on how to dress your family for your photo session.
My biggest tip – I always suggest choosing Mom’s dress first! Find something you love Mamas, then you may coordinate from that. Florals or a pattern can help make it easier to bring in other colors as well.
Something else I like to have you think about is color pallet. What colors to you have throughout the main areas of your home where you would hang portraits? This can also help you decide on what color pallet to coordinate with.
The location and scenery of where you have your portraits made is another factor that can help you decide on a color pallet for your session. I always suggest more neutral color pallet, and it’s easy to bring in a little bit deeper earth tones this time of year.
Accessories such as hats, floral crowns, suspenders, and layers such as a blazer for dad can help add pops of interest and detail.
Another frequently asked question about wardrobe and styling is where to shop! My favorite clothing stores for styling Mom are Lulus, Joyfolie, Zara, VICI, Free People, Nordstrom and Anthropologie. For kids my go to’s are Zara, Joyfolie, GAP, & Nordstrom. For Dads is Nordstrom, GAP, and J.Crew.
Lastly, my best piece of advice is to not stress=) Choose one outfit you love and work from there. This time of year think about adding in textures from sweaters and knits, layers, and accessories and before you know it, you will be ready for your Fall Portrait session in no time!
