When you become a parent, there are a lot of things you need in your tool kit. You always have to have a cabinet with kids’ Motrin and Pedialyte, a bag packed with extra clothes and a snack, and a park where you can head when your child is feeling restless. While I can’t help you with the first two things, I can tell you all about my favorite spots for the moments my family needs to get out into nature. As an Austin photographer, I spend a lot of time exploring this great city. Here are the 10 parks in Austin for kids my family has loved!

Mary Elizabeth Branch Park
2006 Philomena St, Austin, Texas 78723
Mary Elizabeth Branch Park gives you 3.5 picturesque acres where your Austin kids can go out and explore. While this area does have a decent playground, this is mostly my spot for those days when the kids need to roam within my site.

Alliance Children’s Garden
1000 Barton Springs Road, Austin, Texas 78704
Alliance Children’s Garden tends to be the spot where I go when the weather gets a bit too hot. This park splash pad will keep your kids cool throughout the hot Austin summer. They also have amazing features that let your child go below ground and crawl through tunnels!
Butler Metro Park
1000 Barton Springs Road, Austin, Texas 78704
Butler Metro Park is attached to Alliance Children’s Garden and lets you get out into nature. You can go for a bike ride, wander the trails, and let your child explore the grounds.
Pease Park Conservancy
1609 Shoal Creek Blvd, Ste 305, Austin, Texas 78701
Pease Park Conservancy is my top spot for hikes designed for Austin kids. While the path never gets too intensive, you can pass over wooden bridges and hang out in the treehouse.

Ramsey Neighborhood Park has one of the largest playgrounds around. You can sit back and relax as your child finds brand-new ways to play. Throughout the summer, be sure to pack a suit so you can head to the pool once you’re done!
