Austin Newborn Studio Photographer ~ Newborn session tips ~ Baby Poppy

Well, you all seemed to love my last post with five tips for a successful maternity session with toddlers, and as an Austin Newborn studio photographer, I thought it would only be fitting to share my top three tips on a successful studio newborn session workflow.

Toddlers can be just as fun (and tricky) in my studio. Over the years I have found it’s advantageous to have your newborn session in my studio, versus in home or on location, because it’s some place new. Kids love to explore my newborn studio and have fun in a new place. I have a plan in place and also share with parents, that this plan is flexible.

First things first, we start with a family photo. We take the opportunity to take a few more family photos throughout the session, but when we start with family first, it gives the big siblings an idea of what to expect, as we “start the show” as I call it.

Then we try for the sibling shot. Depending on the age of the big sibling, we have a few options to ensure a good shot. If all else fails, once we take the attention off the toddler and onto the baby, the toddler is sure to come back and maybe even go in for a kiss.

As I move throughout my newborn workflow, I always leave room for the big sibling to come back for some snuggle shots, to ensure images with baby and mom and dad, and it works like a charm. =)
